Summary
The court accepted the sheriff’s report on ongoing Liberty County Jail repairs, approved a $182,799.35 fire‑alarm upgrade for the jail’s West and East wings, and recorded a corrected payment to DRG Architects for $134,400 toward the new jail design contract.
Liberty County commissioners on Feb. 24 accepted a status report from the sheriff and approved multiple actions tied to jail infrastructure and safety.
Sheriff’s report: The sheriff told the court the West Hall fire restoration is substantially complete, two replacement doors are on order, upgrades to the HVAC are finished and Digi Security has completed phase 1 of an upgrade to the camera system with "approximately 70 cameras installed" across West Hall and other areas. The court accepted the weekly maintenance report by voice vote.
Fire‑alarm upgrade: County staff presented a Sourcewell contract with Guardian to upgrade the jail’s West Wing fire system and repair East Wing components at a cost of $182,799.35. Staff said the work includes rewiring, panel repairs, motors and replacement of two controller doors, and that the county will also place cabling in conduit to meet code. Commissioners approved the contract to proceed.
Architect payment and construction payables: The court approved a corrected court record showing payment of invoice No. 2018 from DRG Architects LLC in the amount of $134,400 for architectural/engineering services on the new Liberty County Jail (the contract for basic services totals $8,960,000; $8,713,600 remains to be paid). The court also approved a revised payment application to White Construction for the Northwest Annex increasing a previously approved payment to $15,111.38; staff said the change reflects construction accounting adjustments with ARPA funds.
Next steps: County staff will manage inspections and coordinate with vendors to bring the systems online and return any additional contract items to the court as required.
