Martin Dormish, a Ford One minister, urged the council to support Peterson, calling her "a thoughtful person who would bring both an inquisitive and incisive mind and a kind and compassionate heart to the Broomfield City Council." Other speakers, including Bill Heck and Rian Ziotti, also praised candidates and urged the council to consider community service and leadership experience.
Peterson will serve through the November 2026 election, at which point a successor will be elected to fill the remaining term through November 2027. The council invited Peterson to meet with staff for onboarding and board-and-commission assignments; a swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for March 3, 2026.
The appointment followed council procedures for filling vacancies: nominations, public comment, and successive ballots until one candidate received a majority. Council members emphasized the competitive field and thanked all applicants for stepping forward.
