The Westchester SD 92-5 board on June 6 approved several routine and personnel actions and advanced multiple policy first readings.
The board approved a resolution authorizing an abatement transfer from the working cash fund to the education fund. Finance presenter Dennis described the vote as “the final step to move the money back to the educational fund, which will be hit in anticipation of tax payments being late.” The motion was moved by Gina and seconded; the roll-call vote carried 6–0 with one absence.
The board also voted to approve a formal employment contract for an employee identified in the record as Michelle (surname not specified). Members discussed transition planning and an anticipated start date in August; one board member asked whether Michelle would come in during the summer, and Dennis said she could. The motion to approve the contract passed on roll call.
On policy work, the board advanced first readings for several policies provided by staff: - Policy 7-1-80: prevention of and response to bullying, intimidation and harassment — first reading advanced after staff updates and prior corrections were confirmed. - Policy 7-2-60: exemption from physical activity — board removed an optional grade reference (grades 7–8) as previously discussed and advanced the first reading. - Policy 2-2-70: discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, color and national origin — staff said this is a new policy with cross-references; the board advanced the first reading.
Before adjourning to closed session to discuss personnel, litigation and collective-negotiation matters, the board noted additional policy cross-reference work remains; staff (Laura) said more updates will follow in coming months to align newly adopted language across related policies.
The board then voted to retire into closed session to discuss personnel and potential litigation.
