Senate adopts a series of resolutions, honors National Guard Day and welcomes visiting students and industry leaders

During the Feb. 11 session the Senate adopted multiple ceremonial resolutions recognizing congenital heart defect awareness week, family and consumer sciences day, police chiefs recognition day, and National Guard Day; senators also introduced guests from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, University of Georgia programs, Savannah State University and Kia leadership.
The Georgia Senate used floor time on Feb. 11 to adopt several ceremonial resolutions, recognize visiting delegations and spotlight community and civic groups.
Secretary Reed read multiple resolutions that were adopted without objection, including a proclamation recognizing February 2026 as congenital heart defect awareness week and a resolution honoring family and consumer sciences and its educators. Senators recognized the Hudson family and other advocates during the congenital heart awareness presentation; Senator (District 40) highlighted the medical, advocacy and family experiences driving greater attention to early diagnosis and long-term care.
The chamber also adopted a resolution recognizing Feb. 11 as Police Chiefs and Heads of Law Enforcement Agencies Recognition Day. The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and local chiefs were acknowledged in the gallery.
Members welcomed National Guard leaders for National Guard Day. A senior Guard leader and other officials outlined recent achievements, noted recruiting milestones and thanked the legislature for its support of armory modernizations and combined state-federal projects.
The Senate paused for community recognition: Dr. Kristen Higgins was introduced as the doctor of the day and invited senators to use the Capitol clinic; Kia leadership, including the company’s U.S. leadership delegation, were acknowledged and congratulated for local economic contributions; Savannah State University’s new president and students were also introduced and recognized.
These floor recognitions were largely ceremonial and adopted by unanimous consent, with senators using the opportunity to highlight constituent groups and statewide institutions.
