The Sunman‑Dearborn Community School Corporation board approved the 2025–26 school calendar at its Sept. 12 meeting.
Dr. Jackson, superintendent, walked the board through the calendar and recommended adoption, saying the draft largely mirrors the current year with rolling dates. Key dates he highlighted: teachers return the week before students (teachers back Aug. 6, students start the following week), the district will keep the day off before Thanksgiving, winter break for students will run Monday, Dec. 22 through Friday, Jan. 2 with a teacher records day the following Friday, Good Friday will be observed, two built‑in snow days are scheduled (Jan. 19 and Feb. 16) and the district can use up to three e‑learning days as needed. Dr. Jackson said the district is planning for five snow‑makeup options overall when combining e‑learning days and built‑in days; he recommended the board approve the calendar. "I recommend approval of the 25–26 school year calendar," Dr. Jackson said.
A board member moved, another seconded, and the calendar passed by voice vote.
The approved calendar gives families and staff an early outline of the school year and identifies the district’s approach to snow days and e‑learning for the coming year. Specific operational details and any future adjustments will be handled by district administration and returned to the board if needed.
