S3 offered glazing options including reflective coatings, dot-matrix privacy films and higher clerestory windows; ballistic or extra-thick glazing was acknowledged as possible but "very expensive."
Mechanical layout and sightlines were addressed: S3 said the plan includes two larger HVAC units (for redundancy) tucked behind parapet screening so units are not visible from street level. The firm also recommended raising a parapet to screen rooftop equipment and studying decorative screening options.
Storage, mezzanine and future expansion were discussed. S3 noted adding a usable mezzanine would require addressing live-load and egress requirements; an alternative would be taller clear height with pallet-rack storage. The team also sketched how a future third gym could be connected to the current footprint and identified an approximate minimum additional square footage if the district pursues expansion.
Next steps: S3 asked staff to coordinate equipment lists with PE coaches and suggested a short work session to review vendor answers and material samples. The team committed to circulating questions to vendors, returning with samples (brick, panel colors) and refining interior renderings before formal procurement.
