The Rossville Con School District Board of Education elected a new slate of officers and approved several personnel and policy items during its meeting. The chair convened the meeting at 7:00 p.m., opened public comment (no speakers), and moved to business.
The board moved and seconded a slate nominating Joe Hufford for president, Brent Michael for vice president and Nathan McCauley as secretary; the motion carried on a voice vote. The board then appointed Brent Michael as ISBA (Indiana School Boards Association) delegate, Nathan McCollough as the athletic council representative and Gentry Pendleton as a scholarship committee representative; that motion also passed.
The board approved appointments for district finance and compliance roles presented by staff, naming Mandy Pennington as treasurer and approving a deputy treasurer and a HIPAA officer as read. The board likewise moved and approved attorney appointments as presented, naming Louis Capas and Michelle Cooper as legal representatives and confirming participation with Clinton County Joint Services.
On administrative business, the board approved minutes, payroll claims and fund and bank reports that had been distributed in advance. Personnel approvals included naming Mason Morrison as the teacher representative to the district insurance trust; retroactive appointment of Chris Hossfield as a school bus driver effective Dec. 17, 2025; Carrie Swick as a substitute teacher; and Katherine Washburn as a mentor for a new staff member with a prorated mentor stipend.
Policy updates brought forward from the Indiana School Boards Association were approved: a first reading for homebound instruction (section cited in materials) and a revised discipline policy (identified in the materials as section 4302) proceeded according to the board's review and vote.
The board accepted community donations as presented: an in-kind donation from Indiana Packers described in the meeting record as "1,237 of pork loin" for the FFA and a $1,000 donation from the Lions Club to the academic honors program; the board approved related financial items.
Staff described a state flexibility waiver request (referred to in the record as "House of Mobile Act 1003") to continue monthly two-hour delays for professional learning communities and to add one early-release day for a reunification exercise. The district said it would seek up to eight days if the state granted the waiver; the board approved miscellaneous items including that request.
The meeting ended after brief reports on field trips and extracurricular activities, with the next regular meeting announced for Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.
(Attributions: procedural motions and votes recorded by the Chair and board members; staff presented personnel, policy and finance items.)
