Board accepts thousands in community donations, approves fundraisers and school calendar

At the Oct. 9 meeting the Pike County School Corp. board accepted a long list of community donations and approved multiple fundraisers and the proposed 2026–27 school calendar.
Clerk (speaker 2) read donations including a $1,000 gift to Petersburg Elementary from the Mary Ellen team fund; community foundation gifts to Pike Central music and swim programs; $1,000 from AES for PC Green Power; $1,585 from First Robotics for the high‑school robotics team; and multiple $500 gifts to athletic programs (Ripco, Doctor Giesler, Pike Collision and others). The board moved to accept the donations and publicly thanked donors.
The board also approved fundraiser requests such as selling candy bars through the winter months, a middle‑school gift‑card fundraiser, and a cereal drive tied to a February food drive.
Clerk (speaker 2) presented a draft 2026‑27 calendar: first student day Aug. 12; fall break in October; Thanksgiving a three‑day break; end of first semester Dec. 18; students resume Jan. 4; last day of school May 27; parent‑teacher conferences Oct. 7; spring early release March 10. Trustees voted to adopt the calendar framework and directed staff to finalize grading‑period dates.
