District staff told the board the public hearing on the 2026 budget, CPF and bus‑replacement plan had to be rescheduled because a required step was omitted on the Department of Local Government Finance website; the hearing was set for Sept. 29. "We have to move it because you have to have certain number of days in between each piece of it," the district Administrator said.
The board approved an engagement letter with Policy Analytics LLC to analyze parcel‑level property‑tax changes and assess the local impact of recent state tax law changes. Staff said the first-year impact will be a reduction of about $150,000 in district funding and asked the board to approve a $10,000–$10,500 contract for the analysis; the motion passed.
The board approved a memorandum of understanding with Habitat for Humanity to clarify student responsibilities when students participate in Habitat builds. Staff also announced two grant awards: a $174,000 Indiana Criminal Justice Institute grant to fund a case‑manager position supporting students at risk of juvenile‑justice involvement (funded over two years), and a $37,000 secure‑school‑safety grant toward a full‑time school‑resource‑officer position. "This grant is for a salary for the case manager," the Administrator said.
Board members accepted the monthly budget report showing a modest year‑over‑year increase in education fund cash balance and encouraged continuing work on enrollment and budgeting. No policy or capital procurement approvals tied to the student projects were taken; several items (budget hearing scheduling and the Policy Analytics contract) are next steps in district planning.
