Superintendent Dr. McCullough used the business portion of the meeting to recognize personnel and community support items.
Personnel and recognitions: Dr. McCullough introduced two administrative appointees who will begin new roles in January: Megan Dower as director of communications and Anne Marie Dee as executive assistant to the superintendent and school board. He also extended condolences to the family and coworkers of Lori Braxton, a bus monitor who died unexpectedly on Nov. 6 after 17 years of service.
Grants and donations: The Health Foundation of La Porte awarded the district a grant of $371,717 to renovate two playgrounds at Pine Elementary School to create inclusive play spaces that accommodate students who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices. The superintendent credited Christine Kaiser and Robin Crozau for securing the funds. The Little Wolves Early Learning Center received a $2,080 donation from the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce for field trips, family events and kindergarten transition needs.
Events and logistics: Dr. McCullough reminded the community of the Michigan City High School fall musical (Beetlejuice) with remaining performances this weekend, the districtwide holiday concert on Dec. 12 at Michigan City High School, and a district nonperishable food drive beginning Dec. 2 culminating in a drive‑through donation event Dec. 21. He also noted Thanksgiving break dates and historic food‑drive totals (the district collected 8.7 tons of food last year).
