The Michigan City Area Schools Board of Trustees approved several business items during its meeting following a public comment period.
Financial resolution: Board member Mr. Shreeves presented a resolution authorizing 2025 tax‑anticipation warrants to bridge cash‑flow gaps between county tax payments. The numbers as read into the record were: “up to 550,000 out of pension bonds, 7,800,000 out of debt service, and 7.4 out of the operations fund,” with anticipated 2025 tax levies noted around $25,000,000. Trustees moved, seconded and approved the resolution without recorded opposition.
Consent agenda and personnel: The board considered the consent agenda (items 1–7). The board voted first on items 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 together and approved them. Item 2 (employee appointments, resignations, retirements, leaves of absence and status changes) required a separate vote; the motion passed with five members in favor and one abstention (missus Painter was recorded as abstaining).
Curriculum: Mrs. Bildhauser presented the 2025–26 Michigan City High School course guide, which includes added courses in locally created pathways (vocal jazz II) and expanded technology offerings (a move from a cybersecurity focus to information‑technology fundamentals) to align with pending Indiana diploma changes and the Indiana College Core. The board moved, seconded and approved the guide.
No budget appropriations or contract awards tied to the tax‑anticipation resolution or the course guide were adopted in this meeting beyond the authorization described; the board will incorporate any final figures after the state’s final budget order and as county tax levy numbers are finalized.
