The C A Beard Memorial School Corporation Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a Board of Trustees Compact at its meeting, formalizing expectations for board conduct and how trustees and the superintendent will communicate and hold one another accountable. The board president read portions of the compact emphasizing that board members “have no individual authority, real or implied, except when duly authorized by the board to act as its exclusive representative.”
The compact also states that “the superintendent is accountable only to the full board of trustees” and directs members to refrain from interacting with media unless the full board authorizes it. Board members agreed the compact will provide written norms intended to guide behavior and to support continuity across future boards and superintendents.
The motion to accept the compact as a board resolution was moved and seconded and carried on a voice vote, 6-0. Board members praised the compact as a statement of shared standards and said it will help the district maintain consistent expectations over time. The board had no further changes to the draft language and recorded the action as approved for the record.
