The Coldwater Board of Education approved a school bond election resolution in a special meeting, voting to place ballot language with the county clerk that asks voters whether to fund additions and refurbishment to the high school and bus garage, install instructional technology and improve school sites.
"In the opinion of the board, it is necessary and expedient to ask voters whether to approve a bond project consisting of erecting, furnishing, and equipping additions to the high school; remodeling, equipping, reequipping and refurbishing the high school and bus garage; installing instructional technology; and preparing, developing, and improving sites," the chair said when introducing the item.
A board member asked whether approving the language this evening puts the question directly on the ballot. The clerk explained the board was approving official ballot language drafted by the district attorney; that language will be transmitted to the county clerk to be placed on the mail ballot, and the clerk noted the deadline for submission is the next day, which was the reason for the special meeting.
The board took a roll-call vote. Members Holbrook, Steele, Dean, Ryan Welch, Frederick and Lake voted yes; Member Bills Burrows was recorded absent. The chair declared the motion passed.
The resolution authorizes sending ballot language to the county clerk to place the bond question before voters; the transcript does not record the exact dollar amount or final ballot language text beyond the project description. The board set no further public hearing or implementation steps on the record during this meeting; the next regular meeting was announced for 02/23/2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Administrative Service Center.
