District leaders highlight PLC/MTSS work and rising student assessment scores

Doctor French described Bedford s organized into professional learning communities (PLCs) and highlighted math and reading gains attributed to collective teacher practice, instructional coaching and adoption of science-of-reading materials. He said elementary math achievement and growth percentile have moved strongly since pre-COVID baselines and that at least one elementary school ranked among the county leaders in multiple grades.
"This strategy...is called collective teacher efficacy," Doctor French said, summarizing research that supports PLC work. He noted the district will present its work, "From Balance to Science, Transforming Bedford Public Schools with the Science of Reading," at an upcoming MTSS conference in Lansing.
Administrators also shared junior-high and high-school results, reporting county-leading proficiency percentages on several PSAT and SAT measures and improvements in growth indicators. The presentation was informational only; no board action was required.
