Board accepts clean FY2024 audit, hears federal funding details

The Bedford Board of Education voted to accept the final fiscal year 2024 audit after a presentation from Daniel Clark, the signing principal on the audit from Raymond.
"You did receive a clean or unmodified opinion," Clark told the board, adding that auditors found no material audit adjustments, no material weaknesses and no significant deficiencies this year. He also noted two "matters for management" that are suggestions for stronger controls in capital asset management and segregation of duties.
The presentation included single-audit details: Clark reported the district spent approximately $4.02 million in federal dollars in 2024, with roughly $1 million tied to the food service program and about $2.5 million related to COVID-era ESSER funds. He said auditors performed compliance and controls testing on ESSER and issued no findings.
Board members thanked the business office and auditors for a thorough presentation. A motion to accept the audit passed on a roll-call vote with the following recorded yes votes: Amy Bissell; Amy Drehorst/Treehorst; Dee; Gina; Griffin; and the chair (Megan was excused).
The adoption leaves the district positioned with a stronger fund balance and more months of coverage than in prior years, Clark said; board members noted the improvement will help cushion the district as federal ESSER funding winds down.
