Bedford Public Schools board elects officers, approves schedule and financial authorizations

The Bedford Public Schools Board of Education completed its annual organizational business, electing board officers and approving routine administrative items.
In roll-call votes the board appointed Lisa McCaig as president, Amy Drehorst as vice president and Griffin Kirsch as secretary; Amy Bissell was elected treasurer. The board adopted the 2025–26 meeting schedule as recommended and approved the district’s banks of deposit for 2025, including Edward Jones, First Merchants Bank, Huntington National Bank, KeyBank, Michigan Liquid Asset Fund Plus and Directions Credit Union. The board also approved the annual authorization of signatures for the deposit resolution, adding the newly elected treasurer to the list of authorized signers as required by law.
Superintendent Dr. Schultz administered the oath of office earlier in the meeting, after which members were recognized for Board Appreciation Month. The personnel report included acknowledgement of required Michigan tenure recognition for Douglas Road fourth-grade teacher Caitlin Reham; the board voted to accept the acknowledgement.
Board members noted the district has reduced the number of standing meetings in recent years and reserved the right to schedule special or committee meetings as needed. No items were removed from the consent agenda; the consent agenda passed by voice vote.
The meeting concluded with member remarks welcoming newly seated trustees, reminders about upcoming trainings, and a motion to adjourn that carried.
The board took no controversial votes at this session; all recorded motions in the organizational section carried as presented. The board will proceed with scheduled meetings for the coming year and has authorized administration to proceed with the operational steps approved tonight.
