Principals, cabinet report steady start to school year; district plans generative‑AI training and facility projects

Principals and administrators told the board the school year has started smoothly and highlighted a number of upcoming events and programs across the district.

Bridal Hebert, the new student‑council community liaison, outlined homecoming week events, including a Sunday lock‑in, a Wednesday parade and Friday assembly and football game. Several principals reported PBIS assemblies, PSAT recognitions, parent information nights (including a ‘digital detox’ program with Positive U on Oct. 1), and PTO‑sponsored events and book fairs.

Cabinet reports covered facilities and technology. Tom, representing facilities, said the first month of school went well and thanked facility staff for their work. Mark described district planning for a generative‑AI approach and said the effort will culminate in professional learning for teachers on Nov. 3; he said appropriate student engagement levels by age will be part of that work. The business office reported auditors completed an on‑site visit and will wrap up remotely, and staff are finalizing 2024–25 grants.

Assistant/administrator Alex said staffing remains strong, highlighted creative recruiting to fill positions (including a temporary speech and language role) and noted the district was working with Gallagher on health‑insurance decisions as open enrollment approaches. Facilities planning includes roofing and HVAC work the district believes it can fund without hesitation from the general fund and capital projects fund.

The board members thanked staff and volunteers, recognized boosters for providing meeting refreshments, and closed the meeting with gratitude for a smooth opening to the school year. The meeting adjourned after a motion carried by voice vote.
