The Winslow Schools board on Aug. 26 accepted the resignation of a long-serving member and voted to install Karen as vice chair effective the following day.
Chair said the board was notified that "Earl will be stepping down as a board member" because he is moving to Eastport to take a job with Palace High School. The chair thanked Earl for roughly six years of service and presented a certificate of appreciation.
With the resignation effective immediately, the chair nominated Karen to fill the vice chair role. The nomination was seconded and approved by the board without objection. Karen acknowledged the appointment, saying "Thank you."
The board discussed short-term committee coverage tied to the leadership change and confirmed that the vice chair and chair will continue to share responsibilities on the finance committee and other assignments until further adjustments are made.
The meeting moved on after the appointment; the board later took a motion to enter executive session to discuss labor contract matters.
Next steps: Karen will assume the vice-chair duties tomorrow and the board will revisit committee assignments at an upcoming meeting.
