The Saco School Department presented a multi-pronged recruitment campaign to address shortages in substitutes, nurses, educational technicians, drivers and other hourly roles.
Chris Endorff described a consortium approach with Biddeford and Dayton to share costs and broaden reach. "We put together a comprehensive package for the superintendent that would basically revolve around the creation of a 15 second TV commercial," he said, clarifying the spot would be distributed on targeted streaming platforms and social media rather than traditional TV.
Endorff said the campaign includes targeted digital ads (streaming services such as Hulu and Amazon Prime), promotional presence on WMTW's homepage, banner placements at community locations (including the tennis courts at Young School and a Fairfield Street fence) and a website shortcut directing candidates to the hiring platform. The district will use zip-code and search-term targeting to focus outreach on likely candidates.
Endorff said the district has tried low- and no-cost recruitment measures but now needs a more active advertising push because local labor-market pressures and competing incentives are reducing the candidate pool. The board had no questions and took the update as informational; no action was required.
The district also reported ongoing churn and emphasized the need to build a bench of candidates for critical positions.
