He told the board the program has run for multiple years, that staff are trained in wilderness first aid and that the district will provide equipment and offer need‑based scholarships funded in part by a Teens to Trails grant.
Board member Jody made the motion to approve the high‑school trip for 2025; Tina Riley seconded. The chair called for a voice vote, and the motion carried. Keller said the group intends to cap participation near 16–18 students and noted a modest participation fee of about $75, with scholarships available for families in need.
Board members asked about chaperone ratios and safety; Keller cited state rules limiting some ratios and said the district provides extra gear and sleeping bags when needed. The board praised the program’s educational value.
