At the June 11 meeting the administration presented the district’s preliminary ESSA (federal Title) allocations and described contingency plans if federal dollars change.
The presenter said the district’s preliminary Title I allocation increased from last year. By contrast, Title II (teacher quality/professional development) allocation had not been released by the state at the time of the presentation; the district is planning locally to absorb any loss if federal Title II funds are reduced. The presenter explained Title II historically supports a class-size reduction at CK Burns and professional development.
Title IV preliminary allocation, the presentation said, came in near last year’s level (the presenter described only a small difference relative to the prior allocation). The administration noted an "overall" preliminary decrease of roughly $120,400 in federal figures on paper, but said that number reflects lines not yet finalized rather than confirmed cuts.
The presenter outlined next steps and options: prioritize high-impact, low-cost professional development; identify local funding if needed to preserve classroom positions; and accept public input via a posted form. The presentation also listed required private/nonpublic allocations: the presenter reported that Thornton Academy’s share would be just under 38% and Margaret Murphy’s share just over 1% of certain Title funds; those organizations may accept or decline those funds.
Attribution: the ESSA/title allocations and contingency remarks were made by the district presenter assigned to the ESSA/Title update.
