SEA negotiator credits three-year contract and wage increases for sharp drop in EdTech vacancies

At the Sept. 10 meeting, Vicky Cronin, chief negotiator for the Saco Education Association instructional support staff, told the board that recent bargaining produced a three-year collective-bargaining agreement (through June 30, 2028) and that wage increases negotiated under that agreement contributed to a sharp reduction in open educational technician positions.
Cronin said the district began the year with 27 open educational technician positions and entered this school year with eight unfilled positions. She attributed the improvement to the negotiated wage scale and to collaborative bargaining with district leadership and thanked Board members Beth Johnson and Sarah Truman and Superintendent Ray for their partnership during negotiations.
Why it matters: instructional support staff (EdTechs, administrative assistants, secretaries, LPNs) are critical to daily operations and student support. A reduction in vacancies can improve service continuity in classrooms and specialized programs.
