Saco School Board approves minutes, stipend contracts and second readings including new temperature-standards policy

School board member Johnston moved to approve the second readings of policies IHBAC (child find); DKC (travel-expense reimbursement); EB (safety program); EEBA (multifunction school activity buses); EI (insurance program and risk management); EI-R (return-to-work and reasonable accommodations administrative procedure); and EBB (temperature standards). School board member Truman seconded the motion; the roll-call vote was recorded as 7-0 in favor.
Before the vote, public commenters with the Saco Education Association praised the policy package. Holly Tradier, speaking on behalf of the Saco Education Association, said the EBB policy “shows a shift in thinking,” calling it an important update that recognizes both cold and extreme heat as operational concerns for student and staff safety.
The board also approved the meeting minutes dated Aug. 27, 2025, and a stipend memo authorizing stipend contracts for the 2025–26 school year. Both motions passed on unanimous roll-call votes.
Why it matters: the EBB temperature-standards policy formalizes operational guidance for building temperature thresholds and is the product of discussion that drew praise from district staff and the teachers’ association at public comment. The board’s unanimous votes cleared the policies to move forward per the district’s policy-adoption process.
