Administrators recommended awarding contracts to multiple vendors for projects planned this summer: Hardie Construction for ASA classroom renovations and the OHS girls and boys bathroom renovations; Plymoelectric for the football‑field electrical panel; Hopkins for milling and paving; Roof Systems of Maine for a library roof replacement; and Triton for safety sensors. The board authorized the superintendent to enter the contracts as presented.
On the soccer‑field lighting project, administrators recommended Kleinwall Electric for the electrical work to install poles, lights and wiring. Administrators noted a fundraising contribution — Friends of Orono Schools committed $50,000 and Friends of the Arts will cover the project balance — to help fund the installation. The board authorized the superintendent to enter the lighting contract.
During the discussion, Director/contract liaison Derek (on Zoom) explained why a discount was offered on one Hardie Construction line item: the contractor could apply a reduced rate because crews would already be on site for other projects.
Votes and next steps Board votes authorized the superintendent to finalize the listed contracts so work can be scheduled for this summer. Administrators said they had a kickoff meeting scheduled with the lighting materials vendor and expected materials and installation to occur over the summer.
