APAC issues unanimous vote of concurrence on district’s American Indian programming

The Rockford Area Schools board accepted a vote of concurrence from the district’s American Indian Parent Advisory Committee (APAC) at its Feb. 19 meeting, after an APAC chair presentation summarizing a year of work and supports for American Indian students.
APAC chair Jessica Perreult told the board the committee reviewed offerings for the 03/01/2024–03/01/2025 year, cited six programming goals submitted to MDE last November, and concluded the district is meeting the needs of American Indian students. “We issue a vote of concurrence,” Perreult said during the presentation.
The APAC highlighted regular student mentoring, family events, intercultural awareness work for staff, targeted field trips and celebrations of cultural heritage, and the district’s hiring of a cultural liaison as actions that have supported the committee’s goals. The APAC referenced Minnesota statute language in its packet materials (cited in the meeting as Minnesota statute section 124B.078) and reported that the committee’s vote followed its meeting on Feb. 12.
Board members thanked APAC and district staff for the work. The board moved to accept APAC’s vote of concurrence; the motion carried unanimously.
What’s next: The board will continue to receive APAC updates as part of the district’s regular reporting cycle and staff indicated plans to share APAC‑informed programming with broader district stakeholders.
