Rockford board approves 2% increase for superintendent; certifies graduates and accepts donations

Chair Eric Gordy reported that he and Vice Chair Jessica Johnson had worked with the superintendent on the compensation recommendation. The board followed the contract stipulation to conduct annual negotiations and voted to adopt the recommended 2% increase.
The board also adopted a resolution to certify the listing of graduates so high‑school diplomas may be issued; the clerk called the roll and the resolution passed with one member absent. Separately, the board accepted donations and contributions to the district under a resolution that the board approved by roll call vote.
On programming, the board reviewed summer school plans: in‑district sessions will run June 9–26 at Rockford High School, Rockford Middle School and Reams Elementary; Maple Hill will host an elementary session July 21–Aug 7. The summer program is primarily credit recovery at the high‑school level and reading/math focus at middle and elementary levels. Presenters said the district partners with Community Education and uses a fiscal host (Wright Tech) to process state reimbursement; the fiscal host takes an administrative fee (presenters cited a 10% fee), and last year the program roughly broke even with a small net loss historically. The board heard that some afternoon enrichment provided by community partners will be offered free to families this summer.
The meeting included student recognition: Rockford honored IB exam takers and two full‑diploma students, and a Rocket Spotlight award was presented to Jan Hendrickson for notable instructional work.
The board closed the meeting with routine committee updates, scheduled upcoming meetings (including a June 16 regular meeting followed by a closed session for the superintendent evaluation) and adjourned at 8:06 p.m.
What the board decided: the superintendent contract with a 2% increase and the resolutions to certify graduates and accept donations—all motions passed unanimously. Administration will continue detailed budget work following the CFO's projection and will return to the board with final recommendations before budget adoption.
