Board negotiators told the Rockford Public School District board on Oct. 20 that talks with the teachers' bargaining unit are nearing completion and that the district expects to present a tentative agreement at next week's sessions and a ratified contract to the board in November.
Lead negotiator reported that three language items remained and the financial side of the talks was close. The district's CFO and bargaining team were continuing financial work and the administration said a tentative agreement (TA) was likely by the end of the next week.
On district operations, the board reviewed and approved the proposed 2026‑27 school calendar. The calendar adds a professional development day on May 21, 2027, results in 169 student contact days, and moves the school end date to June 3. A minor day‑count correction was requested during discussion; with that change the board approved the calendar unanimously.
The board also approved acknowledgement of October donations in a roll‑call vote. The clerk recorded votes of "Aye" from all board members present. The board moved into closed session to discuss negotiation parameters for the EMR and superintendent contracts under Minnesota statute 13D.03 and returned to open session later in the evening.
No formal ratified contract was approved at the Oct. 20 meeting; negotiators said they expect a ratification request at the November meeting.
