Willie Scott updated the board on school‑to‑work programming, academy recognitions and recent fundraising.
Scott said more than 60 seniors submitted registration for academy distinctions and that, to date, 59 students will earn graduation distinction under the district’s academy model; he reported 43 students have earned pathway proficiency and 14 have completed capstone requirements. He described growing employer and community partnerships that support career pathways — including local engineering groups and a $7,000 donation from Komatsu — and said a further $9,700 was raised through local groups to help purchase a laser engraver for career‑technical programming.
Scott also announced confirmation of a $100,000 workforce grant from an entity he referenced as "I bridal r" with Minnesota North College named as the grant administrator; he said phase‑2 and phase‑3 grant proposals at $100,000 each are prepared. The workforce grant, he said, can cover some staff salary and program costs tied to career academies and capstone development.
Board members thanked Scott and asked for follow‑up details on the grant administration and next steps for equipment purchases. Scott said he would provide more information as funds are finalized.
Next steps: staff will finalize grant paperwork, confirm funding sources for the laser engraver purchase and report back when grant funds are available.
