Northstar principal outlines student activities, reading initiatives and upcoming events

Northstar Elementary Principal Rasheena updated the board on student activities, reading initiatives and upcoming events at her school.
She said fifth graders have gone skating and sixth graders made two ski trips to Giants Ridge (one trip paid by the Parkview North Star PTO). Teachers completed winter benchmark testing in preparation for upcoming MCA assessments. Rasheena described an "I Love to Read" month with a jungle theme, including a book vending machine earned through the Reading Champions program with support from US Steel and local sponsorships; the program included visits and materials and was popular with students.
Rasheena noted that the third graders have been participating actively in reading programs tracked by external partners, that the school’s sixth graders helped film a high-school basketball game with the tech team, and that the elementary opera performance is scheduled for March 5 (open to participating students and their parents). She also said an Exploridome visit and a PTO glow run are upcoming activities.
Board members thanked Rasheena; no action was required for the report.
