Superintendent: Northern Lights Academy faces facility uncertainty as district pursues bonding support

Superintendent Tim told the Proctor Public School District board on Jan. 26 that Northern Lights Academy is still seeking a site for next school year and faces potential disruption tied to local consolidation processes.
Tim said Saint Rose was not an option and that Carlton and Renshaw are discussing consolidation. He warned there is a Feb. 12 petition deadline that, if met, would send consolidation to referendum and could mean Thornton Lakes Academy staff would not know whether they have space at Carleton High School until March or July. Tim said that uncertainty could force program staff to be told they may not have jobs next year if a building becomes unavailable.
Tim said the district is working to include construction funds for a Northern Lights Academy facility in a bonding bill this spring and that representatives (Billy Josteen and Barb Mackey) will attend the Feb. 23 board meeting to discuss a supporting resolution. He described the program as important to the district and said facilities options are being explored, including using a basement space for remote staff work or renovating other buildings.
Separately, Tim reported ongoing maintenance and facility issues across district sites: a pool chemical regulator broke and will require a 36-hour wait before pool use; some entrance heaters and receiving-room heaters are being repaired; the field house heat issue from last year has been resolved and indoor turf remains functional. Tim also noted a pilot hybrid schedule for some advanced math courses and a new Visitor OS check-in system deployed at Bayview.
Next steps: administration will pursue bonding support and present the draft resolution on Feb. 23; staff and program leaders will be kept informed as facility determinations proceed.
