Sherburne County commissioner thanks district for access during County Road 29 work, outlines schedule and safety concerns

Brad Schumacher, Sherburne County commissioner for District 5, addressed the Princeton Public School District board during the public-comment period to update the board on the County Road 29 Rum River Northland paving project and related county coordination.
Schumacher said the county expects northbound paving the week of Aug. 18 and that the road should be fully open for traffic on Aug. 22. He told the board the county stipulated to the contractor that there would be no paving during morning school rush hours so bus traffic would not be affected.
Schumacher thanked the district for allowing the county to use school parking while Northland Avenue was closed and said county staff hold weekly update meetings with the contractors. He also described a traffic-signal change — a blinking left-turn indication — intended to improve traffic flow at the affected intersection and cautioned the community that there may be an adjustment period.
Schumacher added that the county awarded the I-69 project contract to Ames for $44,000,000 and said nearby residents were concerned because construction of a sound barrier required cutting pines; he warned that debris could present a fire danger as dry weather returns and urged timely clearing of cut material.
Board members thanked Schumacher for the update and for the county—s coordination with the district during construction.
