Superintendent reviews emergency drills, enrollment and communications ahead of school year

Superintendent Pat told the board the district is stepping up emergency-preparedness work, communications and enrollment monitoring in advance of the school year.
Pat said the district met with homeland-security personnel about shelter operations and that sheltering training will focus on the middle school because of vehicle-radiation screening facilities and proximity to the Public Works building; FEMA will observe a subsequent drill to validate readiness. Pat said Xcel Energy is funding staff for plant-related responsibilities and that training for district responders will continue.
Pat also said the district launched a new website over the summer and is building an informational campaign tied to an anticipated resolution vote; a press release was expected if the board approved the measure. On enrollment, Pat said kindergarten numbers were near the district target (about 180 students) and that online-school enrollment is currently at or slightly above last year—s exit number.
Pat said staff are coordinating communications and open-house schedules so families can access absentee ballot applications and other materials; the district is also preparing for election logistics such as polling locations and absentee application access.
The superintendent concluded that staff and administration are preparing materials and trainings for the upcoming season, with additional outreach planned for parents and the community.
