At its Jan. 21 organizational meeting the Red Lake Public School District board completed routine organizational tasks: officers were nominated and elected, legal counsel and official depositories were designated, and 2026 committee assignments were approved.
Nominations began at the start of the session. Nicole DeCharlie (S2) nominated herself for a board position during the officer selection process. The board discussed and voted on treasurer and clerk nominations, and then set regular meeting dates and times. After conversation about members’ work schedules, trustees approved holding regular board meetings at 1:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month.
The board designated Kennedy Kennedy Raymond as district legal counsel (motion by Chris; second by Rob) and approved maintaining existing corporate certificate authority for transactions with the district’s liquidity accounts. Trustees discussed official depositories, noted that Bremer had ceased handling district wires in some offices, and designated Old National Bank (with offices mentioned in Fargo and Detroit Lakes) and other accounts as official depositories.
Committee assignments for 2026 were presented and approved on a motion by Tom, seconded by Jack, to allow up to three members per committee. Several members requested reassignment from specific committees (professional development, IPAC, negotiations); staff were asked to update rosters accordingly.
Why it matters: These organizational actions set who has signature authority, who represents the district on intergovernmental groups and committees, and the routine schedule by which the board conducts district business for the coming year.
What’s next: Staff will circulate committee rosters and a calendar invite for the policy committee meeting to review Policy 5.31.
