District staff reported a series of instructional and program updates and described next steps for the strategic plan at the Pawnee City Public Schools Board meeting.
Counselor Ms. Malika (speaker S7) summarized recent college and career activities, saying the district took a large group to a university visit and hosted an "Applied to College" day with 25 college/career/military representatives; seniors received targeted FAFSA help and a catered lunch. She also reported work on CNA course scheduling and that Area Health Education Centers provided materials at no cost for the CNA class.
Administrator Mr. Niss (speaker S5) reviewed preliminary findings the district will use from an upcoming Aquest report (district release date provided to the board). He cited comparative figures presented on instructional time and engagement: "We saw 138 hours on grade-appropriate assignments, 120 hours of strong instruction, 82 hours of deep engagement, [and] 62% with appropriately high expectations," and said the district will use those data to target professional development and tiered supports.
The superintendent-level administrator (speaker S2) briefed the board on the district's ATSI (Additional Targeted Support and Improvement) designation tied to special education performance and identified chronic absenteeism as a high-priority area within the strategic plan. The administration also noted completed HVAC work and ongoing coordination with the vendor to ensure the boiler and new system operate cohesively.
A leader of the culture committee (speaker S6) described committee plans to distribute a staff survey and host periodic staff-connection events; committee work will continue and committee findings will inform board planning in January. Board members asked about committee schedules, paraeducator participation and committee staffing; administration acknowledged some attendance gaps and said committees will report back after the January meeting.
The board received these reports and moved on to business items; no formal action was required on the instructional data or committee reports at this meeting.
The administration said the full 24-25 Aquest report would be publicly posted on the stated release date and that staff would return with targeted recommendations informed by the data.
