Superintendent reports Gussner Elementary eligible for after‑school grant; wellness and cooperative services highlighted

Superintendent Dr. Luck told the Jamestown Public School Board that the district received notice that Gussner Elementary is eligible for an after‑school program grant, which would expand after‑school programming eligibility for elementary students when planning and staffing are in place.
"We did get notification that they're eligible to receive that," Dr. Luck said. "Once we can get planning, once we can get staffing and organized, Gussner Elementary will also have the after school program so all of our elementary students K through 5 would have eligibility for the after school programming now." The superintendent said final implementation depends on planning and staffing.
Dr. Luck also briefed the board on a calendar‑committee schedule: the committee meets Oct. 27 and is expected to return a calendar recommendation at the Nov. 3 board meeting. He summarized staff filing and disclosure requirements recently circulated to board members and described a wellness initiative that will leverage the employee assistance program for optional staff training and financial wellness offerings.
The superintendent highlighted the Southeast Education Cooperative (SCC) as a resource the district uses for training, Medicaid billing and other services. "We have seen...every year, we are able to access far more in Medicaid billing than we would have been in the past," he said, citing cost savings and additional revenue potential.
Dr. Luck also recognized board member Jason Rohrer for earning a veteran board member distinction through the North Dakota School Boards Association service program.
The board did not take formal action during the superintendent's report; the superintendent said staff will bring the calendar recommendation to the Nov. 3 meeting and will proceed with planning for after‑school program implementation as staffing and organization allow.
