Jamestown — The Jamestown Public School Board on Nov. 17 approved several finance and operations items, including acceptance of a $15,000 SEC Innovation Grant to purchase a strategic plan dashboard and board automation services, a memorandum of understanding with James River Medical Center to provide disaster shelter services, and an individual memorandum of understanding for special education technician Joshua Jones.
Superintendent told the board the Optimize Ed Strategic Solutions product is a turnkey purchase equal to the $15,000 grant; once purchased the district owns the tools and staff said there are no ongoing fees tied to the grant‑funded purchase. Melissa confirmed the grant covers the one‑time cost and asked whether there would be continuing costs; the superintendent replied there are no continuing costs for the product as presented.
The board also approved an MOU with James River Medical Center to serve as a disaster shelter and approved an individual MOU that outlines conditions for a special‑education technician’s coursework and possible repayment obligations if conditions are not met. Board members noted the MOUs for individual employees have previously been handled similarly and explained that because they are signed agreements involving district funds, they come to the board for approval.
On a motion by Jason, seconded by Owen, the board approved the Optimize Ed agreement and accepted the SEC Innovation Grant; motions to approve the MOUs carried by voice vote.
