Warrenton, N.C. — Warren County Schools staff presented Policy 9,300, the district’s facility-naming guidelines, on April 22 as an early discussion item ahead of a Policy Committee first reading.
Kedra Wilk described the policy’s intent to keep naming decisions transparent and community-centered as the district prepares to construct a new elementary school. The policy text in current form asks the superintendent to involve staff, students and parents in identifying potential names and lists criteria the district should consider, including avoiding names too similar to existing facilities and prioritizing educational leaders who directly helped students in the district.
Wilk said the policy includes a legal reference to North Carolina General Statute 115C-3647 and that staff will present Policy 9,300 in full at the next policy committee meeting for feedback and potential revisions.
Board members did not take action on the policy at the meeting; the presentation was informational and intended to solicit early stakeholder input before the committee hearing and first reading.
What’s next: Policy 9,300 will appear for first reading at the policy committee meeting, where trustees will have an opportunity to debate specific criteria and proposed language before any formal adoption.
