The Weldon City Schools Board of Education approved a Fast Track reauthorization application on Feb. 27 that will allow Weldon Elementary Global Academy to continue operating under restart status into the 2025–26 school year.
Geneva Faulkner (speaker 5), who manages federal programs and student services, told the board that the restart Fast Track application is a required step to continue under the state’s restart framework and must be submitted the following day. Faulkner said the district has completed the planning and initial phases and that board approval was needed for staff to submit the application online.
Board members asked about teacher certification rates at the elementary campus; staff said certification has improved but noted that of roughly 60 classroom teachers the last check showed about 30 with full certification while others were on emergency or alternative licenses and required steps to complete continuing licensure. Faulkner and staff described monitoring and timelines for teachers to complete licensure requirements by June 30, with human resources and equity plan work intended to increase certification levels.
The board placed the reauthorization on the consent agenda and approved it by voice vote. Faulkner also briefed the board on associated federal grant activity: the district received a Safe Schools award (equipment, student services, training components), is awaiting the outcome of a consolidated federal monitoring visit and is preparing Title I/II/IV budget updates. Robert Robinson (speaker 6) acknowledged a missed deadline on the 21st Century Community Learning Center competitive grant, accepted responsibility and described contingency plans to use other federal funds for a modified summer program.
Staff said they will sign and submit the Fast Track application immediately following the meeting, and they presented materials to show approved grant budgets and current expenditures. The board did not identify any formal objections and approved the consent item.
