Board members discussed the results of the annual board self‑evaluation at the Aug. 13 meeting and agreed to a process for prioritizing narrative comments and arranging professional development to address identified weaknesses.
Chair presented summary results, saying, "The highest score was in financial responsibility, and the lowest score was in personnel qualities." Members emphasized taking narrative comments seriously, allowing board members an opportunity to revise wording before public release and prioritizing four top items for focused improvement. Speaker 8 said the board should address dysfunction: "I feel like the dysfunction of our board over the past year has really led to a lot of stress for all of us." Several members thanked the superintendent and staff for organizing proposed next steps, and staff agreed to compile narratives and provide a prioritization exercise for the board to rate its top areas at the next meeting.
The board also discussed using outside facilitators for professional development and indicated names (Odell Vivard, Jamie Fitch, Arnie) as possible contributors to the debrief and September conversation. The board requested an opportunity for members to edit their narrative comments prior to publication and for administration to return prioritized narratives at a subsequent meeting.
