Caledonia‑Mumford board approves series of routine agreements, policy updates and emergency plans

The Caledonia‑Mumford Central School District Board of Education approved a slate of routine resolutions and agreements at its Aug. 13 meeting, including intermunicipal transportation pacts, cooperative bid participation, updated emergency response plans and multiple policy revisions.

The board voted to certify six partnership administrators as evaluators and lead evaluators under Education Law and Commissioner regulations and carried two intermunicipal cooperative agreements allowing reciprocal loaning of school buses with BOCES and with Genesee, Livingston and Wyoming counties for the 2024–25 school year. Chair called the motions and the board recorded the approvals by voice vote.

Speaker 4, a district staff member, summarized the transportation agreements and noted that one agreement covers buses remaining at BOCES for student transfers while the other covers vehicles used for the building trades program. Staff said costs increased about 5% this year, reflecting higher operating expenses.

The board authorized participation in cooperative bids administered by regional BOCES for the 2025–26 school year, a move staff said generally increases buying power and lowers prices on many items even though some retail items may occasionally remain cheaper through other vendors. "It's the best price," Speaker 4 said, adding some line‑item exceptions such as paper purchases.

Members approved annual elementary, middle and high school emergency response plans required under Commissioner regulations. Speaker 4 highlighted a major change this year: the district plan now includes a bus driver and a bus monitor on districtwide and building‑level safety teams, and adds language about notifying parents for group notifications.

The Board Policy Committee presented revisions to several policies consistent with Erie Niagara BOCES recommendations; the revisions also permit delegation of certain administrative duties to office staff. The board carried the policy updates.

The board also approved a resolution authorizing sale and disposal of miscellaneous surplus district property to the highest bidders via an online auction site per board policy, and two intermunicipal agreements with the Village of Caledonia covering sidewalk work and a concrete pad near the bus garage tied to upcoming capital outlay work.
