Bronxville board says school year started 'smoothly,' adds holidays to district calendar

The board meeting opened with a district official, Rachel (identified by participants by first name), saying the 2025–26 school year had a "smooth start" and encouraging families to subscribe to the district's Bronco Beat communications. She thanked staff and leaders for summer work and highlighted a Presidium-run abuse-prevention training for employees that the district said reinforced a board policy on appropriate boundaries between staff and students.

Rachel thanked facilities staff under Mike Lee, recognized curriculum leaders and new administrators — including Adrienne Laitman (elementary principal), Michelle Tween (elementary assistant principal), Ross Palacio (6–12 assistant principal) — and announced Anthony Vaglika as the district's director of physical education, health and athletics. She said the district created T-shirts for staff to wear on the first day to promote the Bronxville promise of belonging.

The board also voted to add a set of holidays to the printed district calendar distributed to families; additions cited in the meeting included Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Eid al-Fitr and Easter. The board approved routine personnel items (substitute lists, teacher aides, clerical appointments) and welcomed Laura Kelly as a certified occupational therapy assistant, filling the vacancy left by Janice Auer's retirement.

The meeting leader invited Anne Meyer, the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, to present the summer curriculum work and the professional learning plan. After discussion, the board moved to approve the professional learning plan.
