During the family night presentation counselors outlined how grades, credits and state exams affect graduation pathways and described supports to help students meet requirements.
"En total todos los estudiantes necesitan 22 créditos," a counselor said while reviewing the permanent student record and how semester grades (MP1) and finals contribute to final course grades. Presenters walked families through how the final grade is calculated (semester averages and final exams), how retake windows work (August, January and June) and how credits accumulate toward the 22-credit requirement.
Counselors reviewed diploma options used in New York schools: local diploma, Regents diploma and Advanced Regents diploma. They explained that the Regents diploma requires passing five state exams at a 65-or-higher threshold and that the Advanced Regents diploma requires additional exams and higher requirements; counselors also noted opportunities for seals (including bilingual proficiency) for students who demonstrate specific accomplishments.
Presenters urged families to monitor student progress using ISCU for course-level grades and ParentSquare for district messages, and reminded parents that peer tutoring, high-dose tutoring and library resources are available for students who need extra help.
The counseling team said they would be available that night for one-on-one questions and to discuss individual student records and diploma pathways.
