Bath Central board names student liaison, approves personnel slate and rescinds one termination

The Bath Central School District Board of Education on Tuesday appointed Jayla McGee as the district’s nonvoting student liaison and approved a slate of routine personnel actions, including several retirements and new appointments, in unanimous votes.

Board President Mike Meshuck opened the meeting and turned introductions over to district staff. The board formally named Jayla McGee as a student representative for the coming year; the board and staff clarified the post is nonvoting for now and that placing the position on the ballot will require a future policy and voter authorization. A district staff member told the board the district will seek community support to place the change on the ballot and that the student rep will provide periodic updates to the board.

The meeting’s personnel business proceeded by motion or consent. The board approved the appointment of Amy Rusack to fill a vacant seat until the May 20, 2025 election result, and approved an instructional appointment for Alexandra Ward (elementary education). The board accepted several planned retirements — including the director of educational services, Randy Brzezinski, effective June 30, 2025 — and accepted resignations from listed staff. The board also approved probationary hires, a noninstructional appointment extension for medical leave, and other routine personnel items; the minutes show those motions carried 5–0.

On a separate personnel action, the board voted to rescind a termination resolution dated Aug. 14, 2024, for employee number 1977. The motion to rescind passed unanimously. Board members offered public thanks to retiring staff and extended best wishes for their retirements.

What’s next: The board said it will bring a policy authorizing a formal student ex officio seat to a future meeting so the community can decide whether to add the position to the ballot. Otherwise, routine hires and retirements will be processed as approved.
