Tularosa staff say schools, buses and portables largely ready for start of year; some vacancies remain

Staff member for the Tularosa Municipal Schools told the board the district is largely staffed and prepared for the coming school year, with new principals in place and portables and buses ready at the high school. "So we're pretty much fully staffed and, we're ready to go work," the staff member said during the meeting.
The staff member named recent administrative hires (Mister O'Brien, Cesar Alvarez and Bobby Grace) and said the district is still seeking a special-education teacher and a PLA teacher after a recent resignation. The staff member described visa and paperwork complications for an international candidate who would likely not be available until December, and said the district has had turnover in special education in recent years.
District transportation updates included confirmation that the district's buses are in the fleet, drivers have been hired and an activity bus and a new bus are being painted and prepared. Staff said they will obtain quotes for repairs at the high school track and football field house and expect to move forward once estimates are reviewed.
Board members and staff also discussed operational details such as classroom portables at the high school and summer programs for student meals. No board action was taken beyond routine approvals during this portion of the meeting.
The board agreed to follow up on hiring and maintenance quotes and scheduled additional review at future meetings.
