Board authorizes bid process for Flagview auxiliary gym roof

The Elko County School District board authorized staff to take the Flagview auxiliary gym roof project out to bid after hearing from facilities staff that the building—constructed in 1992—has recurring water intrusion and needs replacement.
Facilities presenter Matt Stolke summarized the scope: the project would remove two nonfunctional HVAC units and enclose the penetrations, install a "hugger" roof system (a roof on top of the existing roof), and replace gutters and downspouts. He told trustees the work can be staged to avoid exposing interiors to weather.
Stolke noted the project appeared in the district's capital improvement plan at about $400,000 and that Garland Engineering had offered a cost range of roughly $295,000 to $350,000. "We don't have too many contractors [locally] that do metal roofing," he added, and said the district will reach out to firms in Reno and Salt Lake if needed.
A trustee moved to give permission to go out to bid; the board approved the motion by voice vote. Staff said they will solicit bids, evaluate contractor availability, and return recommendations to the board after the bid process is complete.
The authorization allows the district to seek competitive pricing and refine cost and schedule details before any construction contract is awarded.
