Elko board approves new neighborhood bus stops to ease Mountain View congestion

The Elko County School District board approved a plan to add five stops on an existing Elko bus route that will serve the neighborhood behind Mountain View School, district transportation staff said.
Transportation staff member Seth told the board the change would let students be picked up nearer home instead of being routed to Mountain View, reducing parent drop-off congestion there: "So just kinda trying to add some ease and more service to the students in that area so they don't have to come all the way down to there," he said.
Board members asked how the change would be communicated to parents and whether public-works agencies would be involved in signage or safety measures. A trustee said the concern was primarily safety: "It was just more about the safety," the trustee said, noting the value of clearer road rules around school times. Staff said drivers will practice the new route as part of summer training and that the city of Elko had reviewed the proposed stops and raised no objections; streets on the route are winter maintained.
The board moved and approved the route by voice vote. The district said no existing student service would be removed; stop locations are described as intersections and may be adjusted slightly as needed.
The next step is implementation during the upcoming school year; staff will finalize exact stop placements and communicate details to families before routes begin.
