First graders describe 'Doctor Day' at school board meeting

Berkshire Elementary principal presented a 'Doctor Day' project; two first graders, Cal Smith and Corbin Hiscocks, described hands-on stations, visits from medical professionals and emergency responders, and learning about body systems.
Berkshire Elementary principal Mrs. Gille told the board about a recent "Doctor Day" for first graders that included hands-on stations, themed crafts and visits from parent volunteers who work in the medical and emergency response fields.
"The first grade students at Berkshire Elementary recently traded their pencils for stethoscopes during an exciting doctor day event," Mrs. Gille said, describing rotating stations where students learned about the human body and practiced teamwork. She credited the PTO and teacher grants for providing scrubs and equipment and thanked community partners, including local fire and medic personnel who visited.
Two first graders spoke to the board. "My name is Cal Smith, and I am in first grade... My favorite part of doctor day was seeing my dad going on the stretcher and seeing all of the equipment," one student said. Another said, "My name is Corbin Hiscocks... My favorite part of doctor day was... going in the ambulance; he taught us about fire safety and medic safety."
Board members praised the students' presentations and the PTO and volunteers who supported the event.
