Wilson Central trustees approve hires, resignations and multiple policy and vendor agreements

The Wilson Central School District Board of Education on April 16 approved a series of personnel and policy actions, including hiring a full-time groundskeeper, accepting multiple resignations, approving a termination, and adopting a set of district policies.
Mister Herman, representing the hiring committee, recommended Matthew "Matt" Becker for the full-time groundskeeper position. "Matt did an excellent job during the interview process and we feel his personality will fit into the facility department perfectly," Mister Herman said. The board approved Becker effective April 22, 2024, at job group 12 step 1 with benefits, and confirmed New York State fingerprint clearance had been met.
The board accepted teacher Jennifer Hillwig's resignation (effective March 28, 2024) and food service helper Bethany Esteb's resignation (effective April 12, 2024), and approved the termination of food service helper Michelle Eota effective April 9, 2024. Trustees also approved substitute appointments and a volunteer assistant appointment for junior varsity baseball, as listed on the agenda.
Trustees adopted multiple district policies put forward for adoption, including workplace violence prevention (Policy 6190), use of email in the district (Policy 6411), time out and physical restraints (Policy 7350), safety conditions and prevention instruction (Policy 8210), career and technical occupational education (Policy 8220), and instruction in certain areas (Policy 8240). Motions to adopt the policies were seconded and carried by voice vote.
The board approved agreements with BMS Productions ($400) to assist with sound for a district jazz event and with EMS Productions ($400) for photos and sound at the Orange Moon Awards Ceremony. It also approved an agreement with Catherine Lewis to serve as district treasurer effective July 1 through June 30, 2029.
After the public portion of the meeting, President Kerr moved the board into executive session to discuss personnel matters, including medical, financial or employment history and matters leading to appointment, promotion, discipline, suspension or dismissal of particular individuals. The motion to enter executive session was approved by voice vote; the board indicated no further action was expected immediately after the executive session.
