Wilson Central board approves personnel items, appoints student member and renews facilities director contract

The Wilson Central School District Board of Education unanimously approved a bundle of consent and personnel items at its Sept. 10 meeting, including the appointment of Parker Milley as the district’s ex officio student board member and a four-year contract for facilities director Todd Harmon.

President Carter called for approval of the Aug. 13 meeting minutes and the financial consent agenda; motions were seconded and the board voted unanimously to carry the measures. The board then resolved to appoint Parker Milley as ex officio student board member for the 2024–25 school year, effective Sept. 10, 2024 through June 30, 2025. Parker Milley recited the oath of office, pledging to support the U.S. and New York State constitutions and to “faithfully discharge the duties” of the student board position.

The board approved multiple personnel items, accepting resignations from food-service and guidance staff with effective dates noted in the personnel agenda. It also approved an agreement between the district and Todd Harmon to serve as director of facilities from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2028. President Carter thanked Harmon for his work and called the action a continuation of the district’s facilities partnership.

Student-teacher and practicum placements were also approved, including placements for Maxwell Shoemaker and Adrianna Frerichs from Buffalo State University and observational placements from Canisius University; the board noted New York State Department of Education fingerprint clearance as completed for some candidates and pending for others. The board approved conference and fundraiser requests, use-of-facilities requests, CPSC/504 meeting minutes and IUP recommendations, and private/parochial transportation requests as listed on the agenda.

The board approved a junior and senior high school field trip to Washington, D.C., including attendance at the presidential inauguration scheduled for Jan. 18–21, 2025; the trip approval noted the need to fund approximately six substitute teachers to cover chaperones. All motions in this meeting segment passed by voice vote with the board recording “Aye” and the president announcing the motions carried.

The board did not identify dissent on these items; each vote was carried by voice and recorded as 'motion carried.' The items approved at the Sept. 10 meeting will appear in the official minutes and the administration will follow up on pending fingerprint clearances and logistical arrangements for the approved field trip.
