Alexander Local board approves hires and resignations, votes to terminate employee

The Alexander Local Board of Education voted during its December regular meeting to terminate an employee and to approve several personnel actions, including hiring a transportation supervisor and a paraprofessional.
The chair read the superintendent’s disciplinary recommendation, saying the district recommended terminating Sarah Bush from all employment with the Alexander Local School District effective Dec. 10, 2025 "for violating the written rules and regulations as set forth by the board of education, including policies...and the statutory provisions of FERPA and revenue code 3 3 1 9.321," and for "insubordination, inefficiency, dishonesty, discourteous treatment of the public, neglect of duty, violation of work rules, and personnel policies," among other alleged misconduct. The board moved on the recommendation, seconded, and recorded approval of the termination motion.
The board also voted to employ Joe Smith as transportation supervisor on a two‑year contract effective July 1, 2026, and approved Michelle Smith for a paraprofessional position effective Jan. 5, 2026, both pending state and local requirements. Trustees offered congratulations to the appointees during the meeting.
Other personnel items approved included acceptance of resignations from Dave McLaughlin and Stephanie Preston and approval of early‑graduation requests for several students. The board approved recommended substitute teachers; during that vote one member registered an abstention.
The chair said the board entered executive session twice during the meeting to discuss appointment and employment matters. The board scheduled its organizational meeting for Jan. 14, 2026, in the district media center.
The superintendent’s recommendation to terminate was read into the record and carried by vote; no rebuttal or defense by the employee was recorded in the meeting transcript.
